Free Disposal of Spoilt Food from the wild weather
If you live in Devonport, Latrobe, Kentish, Central Coast, Burnie or Circular Head you will be able to drop spoiled food at the waste transfer station in your community for free between Wednesday 4 September and Sunday 8 September in normal opening hours.
You can leave it in the packaging and DWM will use its de-packager to separate the food from the plastic bag or carboard box and compost the food waste.
If you live in Zeehan and Tullah we expect to have free food waste bins to you today till Sunday. Check the Council web site for more details.
The Waste Transfer Stations offering the free disposal are:
Port Sorell
Sheffield
Spreyton
Lobster Creek
Burnie
Wynyard
White Hills
Zeehan
For people with a FOGO bin please separate the packaging from the food when cleaning out the fridge or freezer as this material won’t go through the de-packager.
Remember to take photos before you throw it away, you may be able to claim the loss on your home contents insurance. Give them a call and see if you have cover for this.
Special thanks to Veolia and Kellys Waste Management for making this program possible on short notice. You are both great businesses to work with.
